Candle Questions

My candle has trouble re-lighting?

Wooden wick candles can sometimes be hard to relight.

After burning, a wooden wick can develop a charred residue. If this charred portion isn't properly trimmed before attempting to relight the candle, it can hinder the ability of the wick to catch fire again. It's crucial to trim the wick to remove the burnt section, leaving a fresh surface that can ignite more easily.

My flame is small?

First, follow the advice in 'My candle has trouble re-lighting'

Following that, if the flame seems small, please allow the wick some time to absorb the wax. And always allow the candle time to burn to the edges.

My candle has not pooled to the edges?

An ideal burn time for candles is 2-4 hours. This ensure the entire top surface of the candle melts.

Please contact us if you are experiencing any other issues.

About wooden wick candles

A wooden wick candle is a type of candle that uses a slender strip of wood instead of the traditional cotton or hemp wick. These candles are known for their unique features, which include a distinct crackling sound reminiscent of a fireplace, creating a cozy and relaxing ambiance. They often burn cleaner and more evenly, and many people find them aesthetically pleasing due to their rustic charm.

How to use wood wick candles

After burning, a wooden wick can develop a charred residue. It's crucial to trim the wick to remove the burnt section, leaving a fresh surface that can ignite more easily.

Materials & Packaging

Our pure wood wicks are sourced from a company that supports the replanting of trees with every wick purchased.

Our jars are made from the most recyclable material known, glass.

The wax we use is a blend of coconut and rapeseed. We use it because it's:

  • Sustainable: Coconut wax is derived from the meat of coconuts, a renewable and sustainable resource. Rapeseed plants are a renewable resource, and the cultivation process is relatively gentle on the environment.
  • Biodegradable: It breaks down naturally, causing minimal environmental impact.
  • Minimal Soot: Produces less soot and smoke, resulting in a cleaner burn and better air quality.

Recommendations

Remove the burnt wood in between burns. Otherwise you may not be able to relight the candle very easily.

Burn to the edges each time you light your candle to avoid 'tunnelling'.

Make sure there is no debris sitting on the wax as this can affect the flame and potentially cause smoke.

Keep out of direct sunlight, this could cause discolouring and potentially affect the wax as it’s likely to melt in the heat.

Always burn in a safe place on a protective surface.

How to prepare your used candle

Your jar of choice needs to be cleaned prior to putting a refill in. Once your candle is finished, you have a couple of option to remove the excess wax:

  • Option 1: Place the jar in you fridge or freezer for at least an hour. Use a blunt knife to carefully break away the wax.
  • Option 2: Fill a bowl with hot (not boiling) water, and place your jar inside. The wax should melt just enough that it can be removed carefully with a blunt knife.

Once you've gotten rid of the majority of the wax, was the jar in warm (not hot) soapy water. It's ok if a little wax is left, as long as you can fit your refill in!

Make sure you wear appropriate PPE, that last thing we want is for you to harm yourself or your jar. If you require further assistance, vistit our 'Contact Us' Page.

Please dispose of any used soapy water safely. By the time you get to washing your jar out, the content of any fragrance or essential oils is minimal. That said we'd rather be safe than sorry. We recommend washing in a separate bowl and then leaving the water mixture to evaporate. Wipe any left over residue and seal in a container or bag and dispose of in your regular bins. This will prevent any leakage into the water system.

How to insert a refill

Simply unwrap your refill and recycle all packaging. All you should be left with is the wax form with a wooden wick in it. Simply pop this into your jar and you have your new candle ready to light.

Can a refill be used without a jar?

We do not recommend using our refills without a correctly fitting jar. The refills are not crafted to burn without a vessel doing so may result in the candle burning all the way to the edge and wax spilling everywhere!

If you use the a refill with anything other than one of our jars we cannot guarentee the quality of the burn.

What is a wax melt?

Each individual wax melt will leave your home smelling great for up to 20 hours. Easy to change and very strong fragrances.

About wax melts

Unlike traditional candles, wax melts do not have a wick. Instead, they are typically small, shaped pieces of wax infused with various fragrances. Because the wax isn't burnt, we can pack it full of even more fragrance to really make your home smell amazing.

How to use wax melts

To use them, you place the wax melt on top of a warmer or a burner designed for this purpose. The warmer heats the wax, causing it to melt and release its fragrance into the air.

Materials & Packaging

We package all our melts in either glassine or cotton draw string bags. Recycle the glassine and resuse the cotton draw string!

The wax we use is a blend of coconut and rapeseed. We use it because it's:

  • Biodegradable: It breaks down naturally, causing minimal environmental impact.
